North Pole...

We continued north from Denali and reached Fairbanks. We are actually staying in a campground that has a mailing address of North Pole, AK! We had planned a flightseeing trip for tonight to the Artic Circle, but the weather in Coldfoot was not suitable for landing so they had to cancel it. I thought this sign was really neat, it is a sled dog crossing sign!

We went in to Fairbanks and stopped for a visit at the music store that is owned by Curtis' brother (Craig). Curtis' mom also lives in Fairbanks and we spent the afternoon with them. They have a great location right on the river with a park across the street. We are going to go out with them tonight to Ivory Jacks, which is also in Fairbanks. They have an open mike night, but we have all promised that we won't be trying it out ;-) Too bad that Geoff left his bagpipes in Raleigh! We took this photo at about 1:30am without a flash. Too bad the photographer had a few too many and couldn't keep the camera still!


We decided to drive up to Eagle Summit, about 110 miles north of Fairbanks, so that we could really get an idea of what the Alaskan tundra looked like. Here is a photo of Jade! Yes... JRTs *do* thaw out after freezing ;-)


It was a dirt road for about the last 50 miles, but well worth it. The views were great, but even better, the place was covered in loads of tiny flowers. It was really cold for us southerners (even the canadian ones LOL!).
